About Me

My wife and I after our COVID elopement

I am currently a UX/UI Designer on the Alexa Shopping team at Amazon, designing voice, multi-modal, and app experiences.

My journey to UX/UI design is unique. Looking back, it must have all started with my early obsession with building Legos. As a kid, I spent countless hours with huge containers filled with legos building Star Wars ships, Indiana Jones temples with trap doors, trains that would snake in and out of my room, robots that could do my chores for me, so on and so forth.

With my more ambitious ideas, I knew the importance of iteration and testing. I ran very lean design sprints...

🤔   "I don't like cleaning the table after dinner - how might I get out of doing it?"

💡    "I'll build a robot that wipes down the table - no supervision necessary!"

🔄    Build, test, learn - "probably should add more sensors to stop my robot from flying over the edge..."

My love of building, combined with my passion for making it easier to live with Type 1 diabetes (I am a diabetic myself) eventually led me to Santa Clara University to get a bachelor's degree in Bioengineering.

After graduating, I wanted to work on something health-related, but was unsure of what career path to pursue. That's when I met an amazing algorithm engineer at Dexcom, a small diabetes tech company at the time (now it has over 2,800 employees!). He sent me several books on user-centered design, explained to me that Dexcom was interested in incorporating it into their product development, and asked if I was interested in leading the way.

"Um, not quite sure what design is, but SURE!"

I started out conducting persona research, which soon morphed into creating prototypes, which then turned into running usability tests - all processes that were relatively new to Dexcom at the time.

After many classes, books, workshops, and years of learning on the job, I am now a well-rounded senior UX/UI designer - following my passion to build, learn, and iterate.

It is also worth mentioning that I have other interests outside of design - primarily basketball, alternative and house music, Jurassic Park movies, and Chipotle. It is always fun to talk product design over a burrito bowl!
